FIRE AT BLENHEIM
FARMERS’ BUILDING GUTTED. Per Press Association. BLENHEIM, October 12. A fire at the Farmers’ Co-operative Building last night caused considerable damage. An employee was effecting repairs to a big motor-truck in a garage at the rear of the premises. Benzine became ignited, and the building was soon wrapped in flames. The fire spread to a grocery bulk store ijnd a hardware and oil store. The brigade was hampered by a breakdown of the borough water service, which is not yet completed. All three departments were completely gutted, the loss including a motor-truck. The loss is estimated at between £2OOO and £3OOO. The insurances total £I4OO on the stock and £3OO on the buildings and corrugated iron sheds in the Farmers’ Co-operative Insurance Association.
