Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., of t Wellington, I who has been on relieving: duty in Auckland, has now received notice of j his permanent transfer to that] town. His place on the bench J in Wellington will be taken by Mr C. R. Orr-Walker, who reoently returned- from Samoa, where he occupied the position of Chief Justice. Mr Walker was stationed at New Plymouth before h‘e accepted the appointment at Samoa. Mr W. H. Woodward has been appointed to fill the resulting vacancy at Samoa, upon Mr Walker taking up his new duties on November Ist. I Mr W. H. Woodward, formerly of (Auckland, who has held the position of J Crown Prosecutor at Apia for some’years, ; has been appointed Chief Justice of Samoa, in succession to Mr C. K. OrrWalker. The post of Crown Prosecutor has been filled by the appointment of Mr A. McCarthy, formerly registrar of the court, who a few years ago was an official of the Auckland Supreme Court. Mr R. E. Bates, who has been transferred to the Audit Department, was the recipient of a tangible 1 token of esteem from his fellow officers. The function took place at the National Pro- 1 vident Fund and Friendly Societies Office the presentation (a solid leather suit case) being made by the chief clerk (Mr G. S. Nicoll), who referred in eulogistic terms to ttoe many sterling quail* ties of the departing officer. Mr Bates, in responding, expressed appreciation of the good fellowship extended to 'him.
