Gillespie, of VVellington, who lias been connected with the Samoan Administration for tlio past seven years, latterly as resident commissioner and magistrate at . Aleipata, arrived in Wellington by the Tofua yesterday. He has relinquished his position on account of ill-health. Prior to his departure from Samoa he was bidden farewell by a large number of chiefs of Upolu, who expressed their sorrow at losing him. Captain Gillespie was formorly on the commercial 6taff of the “New Zealand Times."
