IN THE WATER
CANTERBURY PERFORMANCES. Reference was made in the annual report of the Canterbury Centre of tho New Zealand Swimming Association to the noteworthy achievements of swimmers under the jurisdiction of the centre. Of Miss Shand the report states : Miss G with a Shand during the past season made two journeys overseas, one to Honolulu, aud the other to New South Wales, Australia, and her performances abroad stamped her as one of the most brilliant middle-distance swimmers ths world has seen, and in view of the coming Olympic games, Canterbury could feel very proud in tho excellent prospects of sue a a worthy representative. In Honolulu Miss Shand sot i:p an Hawaiian record for the 440yd6, and in Sydney, competing in the 440yds Australian championship, Miss Shand set up a new Australian record of 6min 9 l-ssec. Miss Shand won the 200yds Auntralian championship in 2min 54 2-ssec, while she was second to Miss V. Wnlrond, of Auckland, in the 100yds Australian championship.
