Two vroll-known New Zealanders in the trotting* world have just returned to New Zealand after attending the recent conference of the controlling trotting bodies of Australia. These are Mr P. Belli, of Christchurch, chairman New Zealand Trotting Association, and Mr C. F. Mark, secretary of the Auckland Trot* ttnjf Club. Mr Sell? was honoured by being made president of the conference. All the suggestions before the conference wore mode, by the New Zealand Trotting Association, which also drew up the agenda. The object of the gathering was to secure a uniform system of control and inspection in the interchange of horses between the States of Australia and also between Australia and New Zealand. There was also an endeavour mode to get the clubs to work uniformly by acting under practically the same rules. Among 19 resolutions adopted, generally dealing with trotting interests, it was deoidea that a controlling body be established in each State of the Commonwealth, with powers similar to those of the New Zealand Trotting Association, such controlling bodies to enter into reciprocal relations, and all suspensions and disqualifications for malpractice® Imposed by any controllong body bo recognised, and endorsed bv reciprocating bodies, including New Zealand. The rules adonted provide against the duplication of tno names of horses, for registration and clearance certificates of imported horses, for official records of first, eeoond and third placings, and for the inspection of imported horses. It was decided to appoint an agent in Sydney to act on behalf of various controlling bodies in the Commonwealth end New Zealand. The proposal to hold conferences at regular intervals was favoured,, but rot decided.
