GALE IN THE TASMAN
“WORST WEATHER EVER.” CAPTAIN’S EXPERIENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. SYDNEY, October 11. The overdue schooner Louis Theriault arrived yesterday, after a voyage of 21 days from Whangape. Captain Watchline says the schooner ran into strong westerly gales soon after her departure from Whangape, and westerlies prevailed for praciScaily the whole voyage, excepting for eight days of a southerly disturbance, which was too fierce to take advantage of. Excepting for a spar breaking, the vessel came through undamaged. On four occasions she was compelled to heave-to for many hours. It was the worst weather he had experienced in many years at sea. Captain Watchline said he was surprised that the vessel was not reported as she had spoken to a Sydney-bound steamer, and had asked to be reported, in view of the length of time the voyage was taking.
