INSPECTION OF CITY WORKS Several of the city works were inspected by the Alay or (Air It. A. Wright, AI.P.) yesterday morning. Sub scquently Air AVrigbt stated that the new power-house at Evans Bay is rapidly approaching completion, and the job should be out of the contrac tors’ hands in July. Part of the ma chinery was being installed, and tho foundations for the turbines were noiv being prepared. Other parts of the machinery were being assembled at the powerhouse. Mr Wright also stated that tile new sub-station at the foot of Constable street was now ill the course of erection, and good progress was also being made with the construction of the other sub-station in Jervois quay. In Oriental Bay preparations were being made to continue the sea wall from opposite Grass street towards Point Jemingham, and behind the wall would bo deposited the spoil to be taken from the site of the new lift to Roseneath. Air Wright was unable to say when the lift .would be installed, hut ho said that it was necessary to got ahead with the sea wall in order to have a convenient place to put the soil from the lift site.
