MRS ALEXANDER MUNRO
THE PASSING OF AN AGED COL ONIST.
Tlie widow of the late Alexander Munro, farmer, Pleasant Valley, Palmerston South, passed away at her residence, Pleasant Valley, on the 2’Jth ult. Mrs Munro, who was the youngest full-sister of the late Sir John McKenzie, and half-sister ot Professor Maokenzie, of Wellington, was in her 83rd year. She arrived in Otago with her husband and a family of ten <wme 42 years ago, and two more children were born in New Zealand. Of her family of twelve—six sons and six daughters—nine survive her. Ilie daughters are Airs Wilson, of Dunedin; Mrs Coutts, of Pleasant Valley, Palmerston South; Airs Cameron, Palmerston South; Airs Burnett, of Queenstown ; the sons are Alajor Duncan Alunro, of Wanganui; Air David Munro, of Palmerston North ; Mr John Munro, of Amberley; Mr Hugh Munro, of the Stock Department, Auckland; and Air Donald Alunro, of Pleasant Valley. Alra Alunro also leaves thirtyfive grandchildren and twelve greatgrandchildren. She herself was one of a family of fifteen, eight of whom foijnd their way, during the past 65 years,. to New Zealand. An older sister died ten years ago. leaving over seventy dcscendents. Sir John AlcKenzie was the first of the family to leave the Highlands of Scotland and settle in New Zealand. He lo(t the home of his boyhood on the beautiful estate of the late Sir Alexander Alatlieson, Bart., of Ardross, in the year 1860, and reached 1 New Zealand early in 1861. Other members of the family followed from time to time. To-day there are nearly 200 descendents of his father in New Zealand.
