NEW ZEALAND CLUB

A SUCCESSFUL YEAR. The annual mooting of the New Zealand Club was held m Routh’s Buildings on . Wednesday evening. The retiring president, Air E. S. Baldwin, was in the chair, and about twenty members wore present-. In presenting its annual report for tho year ended April 30th, 1923, tho committee stated that the club had had a very successful year and that the luncheons held, eleven in number, were well attended, and the speeches delivered greatly appreciated by members. The guests who were entertained during the year were: —Sir John Salmond, K.C , Mr D. F. Wilbur, Right Hon. S. Sastri, Major E. A. Belcher, Dr. L. Lincoln Wirt, Commissioner Booth-Tucker, Mr R. W. Dalton, Air Allan Wilkie, Hon. Sir Francis 8011, K.C., Professor G. H. Knibbs, Captain A. E. W. Thomas, and since the close of the year a very successful luncheon was held in honour of Air N. Elmslie, His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner. The total number of members on the club’s list at the close of the year, exclusive of honorary members and those absent from New Zealand, was 309, and a further 11 members were elected on May Ist, 1923. Tho audited statement of receipts and payments showed that the total receipts (including £lO5 6s 4d brought forward from the previous year) were £272 4s lOd. The expenditure amounted 'to £219 17s lOd, leaving a credit balance at the Union Bank at the close of the year of £52 7s. The smaller credit balance, as compared with the close o-f the previous year, was accounts ed for by the fact that a larger number of luncheons were held (eleven as against four), and the cost to the club of each luncheon is about £ls; tho small balance might therefore be regarded as a good sign, in that it denoted greater activity on the part of tho club. Azotes of thanks were tendered the retiring officers and to the Press. OFFICERS ELECTED. The' following officers were elected for the ensuing year: —Patron, His Excellency the Governor-General (Viscount Jellicoc); president, Mr L. Birks; vicepresidents, Messrs E. Kello>w, W. A. Parton; past presidents, Messrs E. S. Baldwin, R. J. Aekins; committee, Dr. C. G.'Morice, Messrs F. S. Pope, W.‘ E. Spencer, W. M. Page, S. W. Fearn; lion, auditor, Mr D. E.
