WELLINGTON NAVY LEAGUE
(To the Editor "N.Z. Times.") Sir,—l -am direoted by- the executive of the Wellington, branch of the Navy League to aCk you to open a subscription list in your columns for lie "Save the Victory Fund.” We feel sure that no better method can. be devised to bring the matter before the general pablic. Admiral of the Fleet, Sir F. C. Doveton Sturdee, has written to His Excellency the Governor-General with a view of getting donations from New Zealand, and His Excellency the Governor-General has referred the matter to the Navy League branches of New Zealand for , their favourable consideration and sympathy. A collection is now being taken up all over New Zealand, and we desire to help to the best of our ability. The restoration of "The Victory" will take many thousands of pounds, and the responsibility has been' handed over to the Society of Nautical Research, of which Sir Doveton Sturdee is the chairman. Acting on behalf of the Navy League branches of New Zealand. Mr R. D. D. Maclean (president) and Mr R, Darroch (hon. secretary) are arranging to have, if possible, one central fund in Wellington, by means of which the money will be remitted to Sir Doveton Sturdee as one donation from the Navy League branches and their friends in New Zealand.
