COMPETITION LIMITED GERMANY NOT BUYING. The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd., report as follows: We held our fourth wool sale of the present season, our catalogue being offered at a late hour in the evening. There was a full bench of buyers representing America, United Kingdom, the Continent, Japan, local mills and Dominion scourers. Competition, although spirited and keen, was only so up to certain limits, and in consequence some lots failed to reach reserves. Any good lots of fair style and quality brought excellent competition, and were disposed of at prices on a far with our January sale; shabby and lower grade wools found lesser competition and lower prices than hitherto were the order, of the day. Very keen competition was in evidence for lambs’ wool; a very choice line on account of W. G. Fry, of Feilding, realised in our catalogue the very excellent price of 183 d; two lines of merino, branded “Gowanbrae," brought 25jd ami 24jd; a lino of halfbred brought 20d, and Romney up to 153 d. Generally speaking the sale was irregular, but good clips realised, in bur opinion, January figures. A feature of the sale was the absence of competition from Germany, which, no doubt was the cause of the decline in lower-grade and shabby sorts.
