BABY ADRIFT ON RIVER

YOUNG GIRL’S BRAVE RESCUE. A perambulator, with a baby inside, rolled down the 6teps of the Trent embankment, at Nottingham, into the river. It was being carried away by the strong current, when Ena Hibbert, aged thirteen, flung off her hat and plunged in to the rescue. Ena was ont of her depth when she reached the floating "pram, 1 ’ hut she swam to the side, unstrapped the- baby and brought it safely to the bank. Presenting Ena with the Royal Humane Society’s certificate, in the prasenoe of the City Council, Alderman Manning said it was the first time a Mayor of Nottingham had had the pleasure of handing such a certificate to a girL The rescuer is a native of Nottingham, but now lives in Derby, and waa at the time on a visit to the city.
