ROWING

FORTHCOMING REGATTA. CHAMPIONSHIP FOURS. At a meeting of the AVellington Regatta Committee, hold last night, there were present: Messrs Svmonds (in the chair), Diehl, Fenton, Hart, McGowan, McGrath, and Oborn. The secretary reported that the financial position was somewhat improved, but’ the amount required was not yet in view. It was decided tiiat the members of the committee should personally approach tlie ex-oarsmen of AA’clhngton, who had - already been communicated with by circular, with a view to obtaining additional members of the club. The following officials were appointed: ’ —Umpire, J. E. AA’iddop; starter, M. A Turner; judges, Messrs A. D. Bayfeild, R. W. McVilly, G. Lauchlan, and C. E. lnnes. The committee proposes to entertain visiting oarsmen on the Sunday following the regatta by means of a motor tour of the city and surrounding districts, and several car-owners have already generously placed their care at the committee’s disposal. A letter was received from the Mayer agreeing to extend to the visitors a civic reception. It is a number of years since a championship regatta was held in AVellington, and the 'local association has this year decided to hold the interprovincial championship fours of New Zealand in conjunction with the forthcoming regatta, and with entries from Auckland, Canterbury, Marlborough, Wanganui, and AVellington, an interesting race should result.
