English new winter 180 s, spring up to 320 s AVool.—Sales continue with strong demand from Home trade and good support from America. Crossbred Is selling freely at opening rates: medium is now 20 per cent, dearer. Merino prices are somewhat irregular owing to inactive Continental buying Fruit-—lmported apples are little better particularly red sorts. Stocks <>t American and. Canadian are still henvy, but prospective arrivals are smaller. Oregon and British Columbia Jonathans are quoted at 10s to 12s case; Oregon and "British Columbia Spitzenburg, lla to 13s per case; Oregon and Californian Newton lie to 14a per case. Pears—Californian Nelis, 20s fn 235. Larger arrivals of South African are expected next week. HEMP AND TOW EXPERTS FOR JANUARY. From the chief hemp grader (Mr W. Petri"), Department of Agriculture, comes a return showing the quantities of. hemp. tow. an stripper slips graded" at the ports of the Dominion during tho month of January, 1923: HEMP. The total number of hales graded was 5103, as compared with 5473 for the corresponding month of last year, a decrease of 370 bales. For the twelve months ending Jannarv 31st, 1923, the number of bales graded was 60,117, as compared with 59,666 for the previous twelve months, an increase of 461 bales. TOAV. During the month 1441 bales of tow were graded, as compnred with 1209 for tlio same month .last year, an increase of 232 halos. For the twelve months ending January 81st, 1923, the number of bales graded was 13.457, n.s compared with 12,895 for the previous twelve months, an i acre aso of 2562 bales. STRIPPER SLIPS. During fho month here were ,14 bales

of stripper slips graded, as compared with nil for the corresponding month last year. For tho twelve months ending January 31st, 1923, the number of bales graded was 86. as compared with 1283 for the previous twelve months, a decrease of 1186 bales.
