GOAT RACING IN DOMINION. • Pe.* Press Association. INVERCARGILL, February 2. Following on a drive through the town in a gig drawn by a goat, today, a man named Hesse appeared before the Magistrate’s Court at Invercargill charged with “harnessing a goat to a vehicle.’’ He@se pleaded guilty, and explained that recently in Australia he engag'd in the sport of goat racing, and he intended to introduce it into New Zealand. He had a suitable vehicle manufactured at Dunedin for the purpose, but was unaware that he was breaking the New Zealand law. The police stated that although a fine of £lO was provided for they would not ask for a heavy penalty. The bench explained to defendant that his proposed introduction while within the law in Australia was an offence in New Zealand. Defendant was convicted, and ordered to pay costa.
