The mineowners wrote to the French authorities, repeating that they were unable to supply coal. The “Lokal-Anzeiger’s” Essen correspondent states that further sanctions will he imposed to-day, including the requisition of the Ruhr mines. Emptv coal trucks and barges will he strictly controlled. A scheme for the boycott of French goods has been adopted wntihusiastically. The women are refusing to purchase French clothing or luxuries. The Press out that the French troops are smuggling luxuries into the occupied region, for purposes of profit. A boycott of Belgian goods is also being organised. The “Lokal-Anzeiger” says the French will confiscate the magnates’ property, instead of imprisoning them, as they do not wish to create .martyrs for the benefit of national sentiment.
