SOCIETY PERILS
VIEWS ON DR AGNES SAVILL’S LECTURE. Great interest has been aroused in London social circles by Dr Agnes Savill’s attack upon modern society life. ' 1 have neen some girls after a few yearo of Society life aged by ten years, and already, before the age of twenty, as worn-out and nerve-tired as if they were forty” Dr Savill said, in her lecture on "The Dangers oi Society to Health ” Two opposing views on the question were expresed to a "Westminster Gazette" reporter. Lady Alexander condemned Dr Savill’s assertions as too sweeping. . , M "If called upon to prove her case,” said Lady Alexander. ”1 think she would have considerable difficulty. Dr bavill condemns ‘cigaretting. Well, that s all right, isn’t it? There’s potJhing very vicious about that. I know nothing about drinking, but even a cocktail is not a very vicious thing.” ... The Countess of Limerick agreed with Dr Savill. > "Girls do not take enough notice of their mother to-day,” she said "and I think that creates a frightful ’problem. This restless restaurant life is too dreadful for sweet English girls."
