Owing to the American and French demand for coal, the ports in South Wales are crowded, with ships, of which 115 have arrived during the last three days, and 315 are now in dock. Forty-eight steamers are unable to find berths. CONTRACTS CANCELLED EAR REACHING- EFFECTS. Reuter’s Telegram. (Received January 18, 7.15 p m.) PARIS, January 17. Reuter’s Dusseldrrf correspondent states that it is learned from a good source that owing to the occupation of the Ruhr Herr Hugo Stinnes has cancelled contracts for iron oro with Canadian companies. Consequently 2200 workers in Newfoundland are likely to be thrown out of work.
