Because the Papal delegate to Mexico, Signor Fillipi, unveiled a statue of Christ in the open air, the event being attended by thousands of Mexicans, and thue violated a law of 1857, which forbids open-air celebration in public places of religious ceremonies, President Obregon uttered a warning, declaring: “We make no discriminations between the religious of Protestants and other religionists. If they viojate the laws, the Government will proceed in the same way against them.’’ Mexicans attending the unveiling will he punished, and foreigners deported. He called Signor Fillipi “a pernicious foreigner.’’ It is understood >fcat Signor Fillipi will be expelled from a exico.
