KILLED BY A TRAIN
, YOUNG MAN’S FATE. THROWN UNDER THE WHEELS. Further particular* of tho sad fatality at Pasroa (Ohinemuri district) show that a young man named R. Thompson, aged about 18 years, was a passenger on a special train going from Thames to To Aroha. The train stopped to take water before pulling in at Paerpa station, and it appears that the yhung man got off to buy some lollies, leaving his mother, two sisters and a, brother in the carriage. On going out to, the platform the train was travelling at a fast rate of speed, and thinking it was not stopping he gave chase after it, He succeeded in catching hold of the handrail l of one of the carriages* and waß swung round. He got, hold of the rail of another carriage, and this time he struck the tablet post, with the result that he was thrown under the wheels. After being dragged for some distance he was thrown clear of the line. De. ceased was fearfully mangled. 0n« foot was severed near the ankle. His head, above the eye and brows, was out off and his brains were scattered in all directions. , _ The father of deceased is employed in the Lands Department at Kerepeebi, On the Hauraki Plains. Deceased was in the, Survey Department at the same place. ; . ■
