NEW SEASON'S FRUIT
FETCHING GOOD PRICES,
FIRST PLUMS ON SATURDAY. Inquiry in the fruit market on Saturday at Messrs Griffiths and Co. showed that strawberries, gooseberries, and plums are beginning to make thoir appearance. Strawberries have been fairly plentiful during the week, supplies coming from Auckland and Nelson, and retailing at 2s to 2s 6d per punnett. The first half-ease of plums came from the Nelson district on Saturday and sold in the wholesale market for 7s 6d, there being only the one half-case. Messrs Griffiths and Co. have handled several consignments of Nelson tomatoes, which fetched front Is 3d to Is 9di per lb. Gooseberries are becoming more plentiful and mot with a good demand at from 5d to 6d per lb. Nelson strawberries on the market are selling well at from Is 4tl to Is 9d, and Auckland from Is 4d to 2s 3d. Nelson Stunner apples are arriving in fairly large quantities, and prices are easy. Delicious, a few to band, from 14s to 21s per bushel case; Dohertys, 14s to 18s. Pears are in short supply. New green peas are coming forward in larger quantities, and are ’selling freely at Is to 2s per pock, while new potatoes are in demand at 2d to 2sd per lb.
