YORKSHIRE THE CHAMPIONS. RESULTS OF COUNTY MATCHES. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received '.September 3, 11.5 p.m.) , . , LONDON, September 1. Notts, 174 and 58 tgr one wicket, beat Hampshire, 157 and 73. Richmond took nine wickete for 21 runs. Newman played to-day, having apologised to both captains for the incident whioh led to his being requested to leave the fieldLeicester, 143 and 76. beat Gloucester, 73 and 72.' Astill took six wickets for 28 runs and four for 37, and Geary four for 42 and six for 26, bowled throughout' both innings. Kent, 196 for nine wickets (declared) beat' Sussex, 47 and 126, Freeman, in the Becond innings, ' took eight wickets for 56 runs. This is only the twelfth time a-howler has taken seventeen wickets in. a'first-class match, Warwickshire made 244 against Surrey,' who made 104 for two wickets. Play was abandoned; owing to rain. The match between Essox, who had 5 runs on for one wicket against Yorkshire, was also abandoned for the same reason. LEADING PERCENTAGES BATTING AND BOWLING AVERAGES. Yorkshire wins the county championship with a percentage of 75.89. The other leading teams’ figures are;—Notts, 71.53; Surrey, 66.95; Kent, 63.70. The Yorkshire averages are : —Batting: Oldroyd, 45.11 per innings; Sutcliffe, 44.10; Rhodes, 89.36; and Holmes, 39.18. Bowling: Rhodes, took oighty-four wickets at a cost of 12.71 rune per wicket; Macaulay, one hundred and twenty at a cost of 13.31; Kilner, one hundred and one at a cost of 14,89; and Waddington, one hundred and twentyseven at a cost of 14.40. 1 ■ Notts averages are:—Hardstaffe, 45.00; Carr, 37.74; Payton, 34.77; Gunn, 93.05. Bowling—Richmond, one hundred sixty-nine wickets -at a cost of 13.48 per wicket; Barratt, one hundred and nine at a cost of 16.33; and Matthews, thirtyseven at a cost of 18.02. _ -Surrey averages are:— 65.45; Sandham, 46.96; and Fender, 33 78.
