ATTACK ON GREEKS
REPORTED ADVANCE OF TURKS. Australian and N.Z. Cable .Association. (Received September 3, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, September 1. Information from' Greek sources indicates that the Turks advanced seventy-five miles westward of Krar-1-iasar, also that the Greek Wax Council, at which King Constantine will preside, will shortly examine the mili-tary-and political situation. There is some speculation os to whether the Greek Government contemplates the evacuation of Smyrna. GREEK MINISTERS OPTIMISTIC CONFIDENCE IN ULTIMATE ." RESULT. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received September 3, 11.5 p.m.) ATHENS, September 1. The Ministers for War and the Interior have returned from the battlefront. Without concealing the gravity of the fighting, they express confidence as to the •ultimate result. They declare that the retreat from Afiun and Kara-Hissar was most orderly, and the Turks’ losses much heavier than those of the Greeks.
