NAURU PHOSPHATES

SUPPLY & REDUCED PRICE MINISTER GIVES SOME ADVICE TO FARMERS. “GOVERNMENT WATCHING.” Replying in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon to questions concerning the importation of Nauru phosphates, the Minister for Agriculture said that some of the farmers in the South Island might get over the difficulties they were experiencing if they could induce their rural organisations to club for the purpose of importing quantities of suitable size. The Government was very carefully watching all that was taking place in respect of these phosphates, and would see that there was nothing in the nature of exploitation. Replying to a question by Mr A. S. Malcolm (Clutha), in the House of Representatives yesterday, the Hon. W. Nosworthy (Minister for Agriculture) said that the benefit of the reduction in the price of Nauru phosphate as from July Ist would not come into effect so far as the crushed phosphate was concerned until the raw phosphate imported at the new price was crushed and available for'the farmers. Hitherto the raw rock that had been crushed had been imported at the old price.
