DISARMAMENT

AN INTERESTING RUMOUR MR LLOYD GEORGE MAY ADDRESS LEAGUE. IF THOUGHT EXPEDIENT, By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reoeived September 1, 7.55 p.m.) LONDON, August 31. It has been rumoured circumstantially the last fen- days that Mr Lloyd George intends to address the League of Nations at Geneva on disarmament. The “Daily Chronicle's” well-inform-ed lobbyist says that everything depends upon the advice of the British delegates. Mr Lloyd George is willing to attend if they think his presence expedient. THE LEAGUE ATTACKED BITTER GERMAN CARDINAL. “GAMBLING DEN OF CAPITALISTS.” (Received September 1, 7.55 p.m.) BERLIN, August 31. Cardinal Faulhaber, concluding an address to the Catholic Congress at Munich, bitterly attacked the League of Nations. He said that its sole purpose was the strangulation of the economic life of the nation, weakening a nation already economically weak and fattening those economically sound. Such a League would not bring peace to the world. It served oiTly as a world bourse, and became the gambling den of capitalists. Peace could only come from Rome, not from Moscow, Versailles or Genoa.
