BOARD OF TRADE

IS CHAIRMAN RESIGNING ? THE INSTITUTION GRADUALLY DISAPPEARING. ONLY SECRETARY LEFT. It is understood that Mr W, G. McDonald, who has been chairman of the Board of Trade for some years, is resigning that position to accept an appointment as secretary of a large flourmilling concern. Gradually the hoard is disappearing. Some little time ago Mr Wilson de parted from the hoard. Later Mr P. Hally was sent to Auckland in the place of Mr Haile Giles, Conciliation Commissioner, and now rumour says that Mr McDonald is about to go. This means that the only one left is the secretary, Mr J. W. Collins, and these occurrences have given rise to the strong impression. in political circles that the Ministry is anxious to entirely do away with the hoard. aUESTION IN PARLIAMENT. WILL GOVERNMENT ABOLISH THE BOARD? In the House of Representatives yesterday Mr R. Masters (Stratford) asked the Prime Minister: Whether it is n fact that the present chairman of the Board of Trade is resigning his .present position to take up a responsible position with the New Zealand flourmillers’ combine; and, is so, does he not consider it an opportune time to abolish the Board of Trade, which is serving little or no purpose to the Dominion at a very heavy cost to the taxpayer?. ■
