“DON’T WORK”
* MIGHT SHORTEN LIFE. “MORAL” IN ARBITRATION i COURT. “Statistics show that the average expectancy .of ' life of the American citizen is 62 yeans.” Quoting this from an American paper iii the Arbitration Court yesterday, the secretary of the Seamen’s Federation (Mr W. T. Young) sought to establish that a man’s life was short enough without further curtailing it by working him overtime. His Honour Mr Justice Frazer smiled and remarked: “The moral is—don’t work.” (Laughter.) Mr Young: It shows how unwise it is for men to work excessive hours, and, eqnafly, Hoty wiSelit is for a severe rate of overtime s fco' l be imposed to prevent employers from working excessive hours and thus reducing the years of their life.”
