FIRE AT HASTINGS

JOINERY WORKS DESTROYED. t>BB PRESS ASSOCIATION. HASTINGS, August 31. The. -building and joinery works of Messrs H. H. Campbell and Sons were burnt to the ground darly. this morning. The fite alarm was given at 12.40 a.m., and the fire w®a quickly subdued with little damage. A fireman was left in charge for over an hour, and left, having, satisfied , himself that everything was right. A second alarm was' given at 4.9 a.m., at which time the fire had a good hold. When the brigade arrived, the flames had full charge, and made a olean sweep of the bunding, including, the stock and valuable machinery, or a- total estimated value of- £SOOO. The firm estimates its loss .at £2600. Insurances are:—On the building, £1000: on the stock, £250: on machinery, £1105; all in the New Zealand office.
