STRIKE PROSECUTION

NGAKAWAU COAL DISPUTE. It is stated that no settlement has yet been reached in the dispute at the Ngakawau. coal mine, on the West Coast. It is reported that the Alliance of Labour has resolved to give effective backing to the miners if the strike is further prolonged. Telegraphic advice has been received from Mr P. O’Rourke, secretary of the Miners’ Federation, who is at present on the West Coast, that the Department of Labour is claiming a. £2OO penalty against the Ngakawau Miners’ Union for striking. The Hon. G. J. Anderson, Minister for Labour, informed a “Times” representative last evening that the Labour Department had decided to prosecute the Ngakawau Miners’ Union on a ' charge of having broken the terms of its award.
