Bawden Harris, of levin, in order to recuperate his health, is spending a holiday in the Wairarapa. Mr R. W. Dalton, His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner, returned to Wellington yesterday from Auckland. The Hon. G. .T. Anderson, Minister for Labour, went south last evening. He expects to return to Wellington early next week. Hon. A. M. Myers, in a private letter received in Auckland, states that he intends to pay a short visit to Hear Zealand next year. In its thirty-second annual report the New Zealand Academy of Fine Axta records with deep regret the death of one life-member (Mr A. T. Bate), the Hon. J. G. W. Aitken, Messrs Thomas Weave, Walter Nathan, William Cable and O. E. Tolhnist.and one artist member (Mrs H. F. McNeill). A memorial tablet to the late Mr William McLean was unveiled at tha Wellington Spiritualist Church, Riant terrace, by the national president of tha New Zealand Association of Spiritualist Churches, Mr W. C. (Nation. MrNetton, who had been associated with Mr McLean for forty years, paid a tribute to the strenuous work ]jy tha pioneer of the movement in tfe Dominion. Mr J. H. Fabling, president i>f the Wellington Church, also spoke of the work carried out by the late Mr McLean. At the meeting of tho Boys’ Institute' and S.A. Home for Boys, the - esidant,- 1 Mr G. A. Troup, referred to the loan sustained by the Institute by the death of its honorary surgeon, the late Dr. T. Harrison Horrax. He had inaugurated (he medical corrective classes, and wae looking forward to the play area as an opportunity to farther extend the work. He had always given his services willingly tor the benefit of the children, and his -bes would ho keenly felt by the boys of the institute. A mnH-n of condolence with the relatives was carried in silence. Another of Wellington’s older residents. Mr Henry Heston Taylor, of SM, The Terrace. Wellington, and late of the Lands and Survey Department, died, an Sunday night. The late Mr Taylor arrived in New Zealand in tha ship Loch Creo in 1879, and settled in Wellington shortly afterwards. Hie was m member of the Civil Service for some thirty-eight years, and retired on superannuation three years ago. Ha leaves a widow, and two children— Miss Taylor and 'Hr F. H. Taylor, late AssistantController of the Department of Imperial Government Supplies. The funeral of the late Mr James R Karte, Lower Hutt, took place yesterday morning, and was attended by retail res and intimate friends. A short service was read at J-t. James Church by Arehaeacon Hansel 1. after which, tbs oortege proceeded to the Taita Cemetery, where deceased was laid at rest. The burial cervide was conducted by Archdeacon HanseU. The pall-bearere were supplied by the staff of Messrs den don Bros.. and the principal mourners were Messrs Richards, from Taranaki and Christchurch, brothere-in-law to the lata gentleman. Among the attendances were Messrs 8. and V. Clendon, and Included in the floral tributes were one from Messrs CSendon Bros, and another from the Lower Hntt railway staff.
