MAGISTRATE’S COURT

YESTERDAY’S SITTING POLICE, CIVIL AND BY-LAW CASES. Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M., presided at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, when police, civil and by-law cases were heard. Five first offending inebi*iat6B were treated in the usual manner. Harold White was charged that at Westport he did obtain the sum of X 3 from Reginald Hiokford by means of a valueless cheque. On tne application of Sub-Inspector McNamara, the accused was remanded until to-day. BY-LAW CAS^S. NUMEROUS OFFENDERS. Mr E. Page, S.M. dealt with the following by-law cases:— For driving on the wrong side of the road, Thomas Knudson Garrett was convicted and ordered to pay 7s costs. Clarence Victor Reeves, for driving his motor-bicycle at an excessive speed, was also convicted and ordered to pay costs amounting to 7s. Cecil Cavendish James, who had left his motor-car unattended, was fined 10s and costs 7s. For a similar offence, Paul Pallesen was also fined 10s and costs. Frank Seth, for committing an indecent act in a public place was fined XI and costs. Alexander Winks, who had failed to obey a constable's signal, was fined Xl and 15s costs. For driving his motor-car through a prohibited section of Courtenay place, Ivan Gray was fined 10s and costs. Ruth Small, for allowing her chimney to catch fire, was fined 5s and 7s costs. Arthur White, for smoking in the auction market, was convicted and ordered to pay-7s costs. Patrick Cavanagh, for allowing stock to wander, was fined -21 and costs. For failing to register their dogs. Joshua Ede was ordered to pay 7s costs, Arthur V. Lloyd was fined 5s and costs, end Frank H. Perry and Benjamin Wilson were each ordered to pay costs. Alice Maud Anderson, for failing to notify change of ownership of a motorcar was fined 10s and costs. Albert Durant, for allowing offensive matter to accumulate, was fined £2 and costs. . Harry George, for a similar offence, was fined 5s and costs amounting to XI 2a fid. For allowing stock to wander, William Murphy was fined 10s and costs. MILITARY DEFAULTERS. For failing to attend drill, George Morton Black was fined 10s and costs, and James H. Rockel was fined XI and costs. For failing to return his uniform, Erne6t Thomas Mace-Humphries was fined 10s and costs.

David Leslie Cragg X6O Is 4d, cods X 4 15s 6d; Burns, Philp and Co., Ltd. v. D. L. Clegg X 4 Is lid, costa XI 7s 6d. On a judgment summons, L. Hitchinga was ordered to pay the Supply Stores X 7 2s 4d before September 26th, in default three days’ imprisonment. Mrs E. Couper is to pay Kirkcaldie and Btains, Ltd. Xl9 12s 6d in monthly instalments of X2. James Brown was ordered to pay the Barnet Glass Rubber Company, Ltd. X 36 6s 6d at the rate of 10s a wees. D. L. Cragg is to pay Goldinghanr and Beckett, Ltd., X 47 4s 3d before September sth, or go to gaol for twenty-one days. D. L. Cragg to pav Moore. Wilson and Co.. Ltd., Xl7B 14s 2d Wore September sth, in default two month#.
