BOWLING

A SUCCESSFUL YEAR EASTBOURNE CLUB. The Eastbourne Bowling Club has maintained its popularity, and steady progress continues to be made. The past season has been one of tbe most successful of the club, says the annual report. The membership has again increased, and now approaches in number a substantial total. A number of "city members," paying a small fee still patronise the club at week-ends. The financial position of the club has considerably improved, and the committee is now able to present a balance-sheet showing no liabilities other than th* bank overdraft. The long-standing water service account has now been discharged. Besides taking part in a number of friendly games, the club competed in all the senior pennant matches, and members “were thus given many opportunities of playing on other greens. No entry was made for junior pennants, but juniors competed in tbe ’’junior stare," and brought them to the club for a brief period. Teams were entered for all th© champion of championship matches, and in the singles our Mr T. Mayer (the former champion) was “runner-up." The olub’s annual match with the Lower Hutt Club, ou Anniversary Day, was played on the Lower Hntt green, and the members playing greatly appreciated the hospitality extended to them. The club matches were, for the first time, brought to a conclusion, upon which members were to be congratulated. The Wilford Challenge Cup (for pairs) was won by Messrs Cimino and EScley; championship pairs, by Messrs McKenzie and Norris; senior singles, by Mr T. Mayer; and junior .singles, by Mr S Johns. The club’s Easter tournament was again a great success, hut it was to he regretted that only one rink from the club took part, and that so many members were “on the bank.”
