THE ODIOUS TAX APPEALS TO PRIME MINISTER. A meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union was held last evening, present Messrs G. W. Slade (chairman! A. C. Kitto, S. S. Dean, E. Wylie, W. Glenn, S. Howe, A. J. Griffiths, and H. E. Combs (secretary). CONGRATULATIONS. Tho New South Wales Rugby Union wrote acknowledging the New Zealand Rugby Union’s cable of congratulations on their recent success in. the test matches. THE AMUSEMENT TAX. Letters were received from various unions supporting the attitude of the Sports Protection Association in en-, deavouring to secure relief from the amusement tax on sports whioh were not run for profit. Most of them were sending copies of the letter to tub-unions asking them to pass similar resolutions and forward to tho Prime Minister and members of Parliament for their respective districts. CHARITY MATCH RESULTS. Lotters were received announcing the receipt of the following sums in connection with the charity matches; Southland raised £lOl 10s for matches played throughout Southland, otf which £SO 15s was voted to Sir Arthur Pearson’s Fund for the Blind, and £SO 15s to local charities ; Thames raised! a net sum of £8 12s, which was forwarded to the Pearson Fund. Buller Union wrote that they usually opened the season with a eevenasido tournament for charity, and they would fall in with the N.Z.R-U.’s wishes next season. It was decided to ask the Buller Union to reconsider their decision and arrange a match this season.
