He returned to Wanganui twenty-two year© ago, and for the last ten years has held the post' of Collector, succeeding Air Dickie. Messrs G. C. Webster and O. Gillian, of the reporting staff of the "Manawatu Standard," have resigned their positions on that journal. Mr Webster has accepted an appointment on the literary staff of the "Auckland Star," and Mr Gillian will shortly be leaving for Port Fairy, Australia, as analytical expert to a well-known chemical manufacturing firm. Mr Robert Mitchell, who died at Devonport. Auckland, at the age of 67. was well-known in Auckland business circles. Mr Mitchell was born in the West of Scotland, and came to Auckland in the early 'eighties. He was first in the office of the legal firm of Messrs Bussoil and Campbell, and later with the Northern Roller Milling Company, Ltd.. with which he was connected for 39 years, holding the position of accountant at the date of his death. An ohd colonist, Mr Charles Vinei Hill, died at Onehunga. aged Si.- Bom at Surry Hills, near Sydney, New South Wales, Mr Hill h/id lived in Auckland for S 3 year?, he and his parents having cam© from Sydney with. Captain Hobson, New Zealand's first Governor, in 1810, arriving at Auckland in the barque Anna Watson in September, 1810, when the vessel brought the Governor and party from Russell to the new capital. Mr Hill's father was one of the mechanic* brought from Sydney by the Governor. He took an active part in local affairs, being for many years a member of the Onehunga Borongh Council, and a dime-, tor of the Onehunga Land Society.
