trade with java. (To the Editor “N.Z. Times.’’) Sir, —At the risk of overdoing it may I return to the question of trade with the Dutch Indies? In .mine, published in your issue of 15th instant, I closed my letter as follows:—“In conclusion remember the Dutch Indies desire to sell to New Zealand produce grown by coloured labour paid in silver to a white people for gold.” In your issue of today yon publish "foreign exchange rates" covering exchanges from New York to Hongkong, eleven couutries in old. Even Germany is included, but there is no mention of the guilder. Why? Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Japan, India, China, etc., are quoted. Why not Holland!? Is it because their gold reserve, very considerable in 1914, is now in neod of replenishing? Possibly this is the correct answer, and if So, Mr Teppema’e visit to ns is explained. In my search for an exchange for the elusive guilder I noticed the German mark is quoted at 3709 to the pound sterling. With which irrelevancy permit me to subscribe myself. HOLLAND, 1914, Late Bagan Se Api Api.
