FATAL ACCIDENTS
DEATH FROM COAL CAB PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, August 21. Mrs Margaret Odium, aged 74, was found dead in ber residence yesterday. The coroner found that death was due to asphyxiation, caused by an accidental escape or coal gas. Presumably the deceased went to bed not knowing that the gas jet was partially turned on. RETURNED SOLDIER’S DEATH UNUSUAL CIKjOUMSTANCES. PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION. NAPIER, August 21. An accident which resulted in the death of a returned soldier, John Alexander Stracban, aged 29 years, occurred at Tar ad ale on Saturday night. Tho deceased was driving a horse in a spring cart, and the horee took fright, and backed the cart into a ditch, in which there was about a foot of water. The deceased was thrown out into the ditch, and the horse fell on top of him. Several minutes elapsed before the deceased could be extricated, and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. Frederick Leighton, laged 44, was killed yesterday, while he was watching two friends cm down a free at Aramoh{> The falling tree struck another and fell on him. Deceased leaves a wife and four children. A DRIVER’S END PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION. TIMARU, August 21. A single man named George Fowler was killed near Arundel on Saturday through being run over by a dray which he was driving. FOUND DEAD PER PRESS ASSOCIATIONCHRISTCHURCH, August 21. Annie Donaldson, a single woman, 40 years of ago, was found dead in Leeston show grounds to-day.
