SCHOOL COMMITTEES

MIRAMAR SOUTH. The monthly meeting of the Miramar South School Committee was attended by Messrs R, McKeen (chairman), W. Wiles, H. J. Lxardet, A. Ross, G. Minifie, A. D. Aitken, Mrs A. M. East (secretary), and Mr W. Smith (headmaster). Thanks were extended to Broadway, Ltd. (per Mr Vickery) for a donation of ,£lO towards ground improvements, and to the Wellington South School Commit- . tee for a promise of shrubs and trees. . The headmaster's report showed that the roll had risen from 297 to 355 4 on July 28th. The average attendance for the previous six weeks had been 322. The grounds committee reported that over 300 trees had been planted, and that the flag pole was now in course of erec. tion. The proposed gardens were being dug, and a comprehensive scheme of levelling and improvement was being discussed. The social committee stated that the Saturday night dances and euchre parties were still flourishing and producing good revenue. The aggregate prizes had been won by Mrs Harlen and Mr J. Cruickshank. The concert had been a great success, and had added over £ls to the finances. The ladies' committee furnished a comprehensive statement as to the bazaar and jumble sale to be held on August 25th and 26th, at the school. Varied stalls and sideshows had been allotted, and handsome donations made. A good concert programme had also been arranged. It was decided to invite the Hon. Mr Parr (Minister for Education), Mr R. A. Wright, M.P. (member for the district), and Mr T. Forsyth (chairman of the Education Board), to attend on Friday, August 25th, to unfurl the flag and open the bazaar. It was decided to still further press the matter of overcrowding, and the necessity for more accommodation. The gas installation having been completed, it was decided to provide cocoa free to the scholars.
