NAVAL PROGRAMMES
UNRESTRICTED TYPE SHIP*. JAPAN BUILDING MORE THAN OTHER POWERS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received Juno 29, 12.20 am.) NEW YORK, June 27. The New York “Times” Washington correspondent reports that the latest official Naval Intelligence Department’s survey of the increase to the naval programme of the five Ftiraa signatory to the Wadiington naval treaty, shows that Japan has building, and projected, more steps of the umestricted types than any other Power. The types are: First line light enriama, destroyer leaders, first fine destroyers, first tine submarines, and fleet sub* marines. Britain is building of these, respectively, none of the first type, one of 1750 tone in theseoond type, three of 3725 tons in the third type, four of 5800 tons in the fourth type;, and nond of the fifth type. United States has ten of 75,000 tons of the first type, none of the second, three of 3645 tons in the third thirfy-six of 31,561 tens in the fourth*, and three of 6375 in the fifth.
Japan has fifteen of 81,900 tans in the first, none of the second,, fifty of 58,500 tons in the third, twenty-three of 30,394 tons in the fourth, fifty-bwa of unknown tannage in the fifth.
France has three of 24,000 tens id the first, six of 14,400 tons in thd second, twelve of 16,800 torn in the third, twelve of 13,200 tons in fourth, and none in the fifth.
Italy has two of 16,000 tens in tha first, six of 12,270 in the second, twelve of 11,680 in the third, four of 2600 id the fourth, and none in the fifth.
