END OF THE STORM
MR BATES AND THE WEATHER. . A CHANGE FOR THE BETTER. Cold weather has been experienced in Wellington /luring the last day or two. There has been a strong south wind, with intermittent showers of rain, but there is said to he evidence of a change for the better. The meteorological report last evening showed that rain had only fallen af- Wellington and Castlepoint, while tho weather in other portion® of the Dominion was fair to cloudy, with moderate south winds. The Government Meteorologist (Mr D. C. Bates), when interviewed by a “Times” reporter, stated that the weather conditions were due to the intensification of a storm area to the eastward of New Zealand. Mr Bates said that it might bo described as the tail-end of a storm. The weather is likeTy to moderate shortly through a disturbance which is approaching from the westward, which will bring about northerly winds in about twenty-four hours.
