ACCESS TO KARORI
TRAMS ON UPLAND ROAD. RESIDENTS’ RECOMMENDATIONS. A speoial meeting of the Karori Progressive Association was held last evening for the purpose of discussing the question of quicker transit to the city. There was a very large attendance of Karori and Northland residents, Mr W. T. Hildreth, the president, occupying the chair. The chairmian explained that the executive had been in communication with the executive of the Northland Progressive Association, and that a joint deputation from the two bodies had been arranged to wait on the Ciqy Council on Thursday evening next to present the following two resolutions embodying the expressed wishes of the residents of the dietrict:— ■“That, owing to the serious disabilities under which Northland residents have been labouring for years past, this meeting strongly advocate the construction of the Northland extension at the earliest possible date, and in the meantime recommends that a suitable motor service be provided to connect with the Kelbum tram.” “That this meeting of Northland and Karori representatives requests the City Council, for the purpose of obtaining quicker access to Northland and Karori, to take immediate steps for the purchase of the Kelburn tram, and to lay the rails to Northland across Kelburn via the junction of the Northland and Karori roads.” The meeting approved the action of the delegates in moving for the purchase of the cable tram by the council, and endorsed the recommendations contained in the resolutions.
