GREAT GAME IN SYDNEY MAORIS MAKE GOOD IMPRESSION. A STIRRING FIVE! MINUTES. By T^egraph.—Press Assn.—Couvright. (Received June 25, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 24. In the Rugby Union game, the Maoris defeated New South Wales by 25 points to 22 (four triee, three penalty goals, and two converted tried, against six tries, tw<> of which were converted). The weather was fine, but cloudy. The ground was heavy, and tlie attendance numbered 15,000. The game was an even contest throughout. The advantage slightly favoured the Maoris, who gave a display of clever football, though lacking- in polish and fine points. The score** were B all at the interval. The la*d five minutes' play was of a stirring character. The Maoris led by 20 to 17, when New South Wales scored, converted the try, and assumed the lead. With a few minutes to go, the Maori forwards, infusing tremendous sparkle in a rush down the field, overwhelmed Mayne, who fumbled. Broughton snapped the boll up and literally galloped for the line, and scored with several hanging on amid great excitement. Jacobs converted, and full rime was sounded. The Maoris were excellent, and though ft would be nnfair to discriminate, perhaps Bell, Phillips; and Jacobs were the pick.
