RED STAR IN THE LEAD CLOSE CONTEST ON SATTJKDAY. (By Telegraph—Special to If N.Z. Times.”) MASTERTON, June 24. The Wairaraipa Rugby Union’s championship fixtures were continued this afternoon in fine A\ r eather, but on heavy grounds. RED STAR BEAT GLADSTONE. The principal senior fixture Avas between Red Star and Gladstone, at Masterton, A tough struggle Avas antici- . pa ted, and it was one of the hardest and fastest games played at Masterton for some considerable time. It was a game between the Red Star forAvards and the Gladstone backs, and the Star forwards Avon the day. The Star pack played Avith greet dash all tlirough, ana oA T or and over again smothered the Gladstone backs. The Star backs, Avith the exception of Flaws, Carson, Southgate, and Fuller (the ex>Berhampore player), were weak. Fuller played a splendid game for Red Star, and Old some excellent attacking Avork. He had bad luck in not scoring'-a try on one occasion. This is the first game theitex-Herixampore player ! has taken part in in the Wairarapa, and ! when he gets into his stride he should be a decided acquisition to Wairarapa football.
