SHEARERS’ DISPUTE MANIFESTO BY THE AUSTRALIAN' WORKERS’ UNION’. QUEENSLAND RATES DEMANDED. By Telegraph.—Tress \«sn.—Copyright. SYDNEY, Juno 2. Tho Australian Workers’ Union has issued a manifesto directing the shearers to refrain from shearing except- on the hasis of the Queensland terms, which the union demands under its fighting policy. The manifesto states that- tho union considers Mr Justice Powers’s recent award unjust and incqijitiblo. It has exhausted every p.'e.sihle moans to reach an equitable settlement, but on each occasion has been repulsed hv both tho Commonwealth Arbitration Court and the Fastoralists’ Associations. (Received .Tune 2. 11.45 p.m.) MELBOURNE, June 2. A meeting of the Australian Workenß' Union unanimously decided not to commence shearing until the terms of the Queensland award are granted.
THE COAL MINERS COMPULSORY CONFERENCE SOUGHT IN N.S.W. SYDNEY, June 2. The eoalotvneru have appealed to the Coal Tribunal, requesting a compulsory conference to deal with the dispute. Mr Baddeley, the miners’ president, stated that Commonwealth control of the coal industry will continue till the end of 1922, which is endorsed by. Act of Parliament. No reduction can take place this year. ARBITRATION CHANGES IN SYSTEM MOOTED. SYDNEY, June 2. The Attorney-General of New South Wales has advised the Cabinet that the necessary legislation can be brought forward next session of Parliament to effect vital changes in the arbitration system. He stated that the Board of Trade in its present form can be abolished,’ and the principle of the Universal basic wage can be altered. The Industrial Court can prescribe the wages for each industry.
