FIRE ON S.S. DEVON
THE OUTBREAK SUPPRESSED. The Federal Office received, advice yesterday that the fire on the steamer Devon had been extinguished, except for some slight smouldering in parts. The position, it was said, was well in hand, and it was expected.' to finish discharging the coal in the starboard bunker last evening, when a complete survey of the vessel would be made.
AIL TRACE DISAPPEARS.
PEE PBESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, June 1. - this morning all trace of the. fire on the steamer Devon had disappeared. The bunkers will be clear tonight, when a thorough 1 survey will be made. The following telegram has been sent to Lloyds’ by Sir Joseph Kinsey: “Fire on Devon well in hand, and quite safe.”
