“ONLY ONE CHURCH”
STRONG PLEA FOR UNITY 1 . Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received Mav 31, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Alay 30. The Archbishop of York’s committee on church unity, which is a sequel to the bishops’ conference of 1920, including six Anglicans and six Free Churchmen, reports that there is and can he only one church. The churches are tho local representatives of one church. The existence of rival denominational churches cannot bo regarded as in accordance with the purpose of Christ. Every endeavour ought to be made and the resources of the position set forth in a new iestament. The episcopate ought to bo accepted for tho united church of the future. Similarly the council of Presbyters and the Congregation of tho Faithful should ho maintained. The acceptance of episcopal ordination would not imply the acceptance of any particular theory regarding ite origin, character, or the disowning of past ministries which had been blessed by tlio Spirit of God.
