DAX T IES AGAIN DEFEATED (Received April 27, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, April 27. XVatson (Victoria) defeated Davie* (N.Z.) in the tenth round of the chess tournament. XVatson is leading in the competition with eight points. This reverse puts Davies out of the running for first place, as he can only make a soore of Bfc by winning hie three remaining games. C. G. XVatson, on the other hand, is sure of 9 points, as he gets a win by default from Esling when the final round is played on Saturday (to-morrow). XVatson ia the present champion of Victoria, a title that he has gained several times during the past twenty years. Round 10 also included the important fixture Viner (the present Australian champion) v. XVafiace. Round 11 included the games Davies v. Steele (Victoria) XVallace "(champion of Now Soutl! XVales) v. XVatson (champion of Victoria)., and Gundersen (ex-champion of XTictoria) v. X’iner. In round 12 Davies plays XVallace, XVatson plays Gunderson, and Viner gets a win by default from Esling. In the last round Davies is pitted against Gunderson.
