PRACTICAL INSTRUCTION
ADDRESS TO SCHOOLBOYS. A few days ago an interesting sight was witnessed by passers-by in Museum street. Surrounded by sixty to seventy schoolboys was a tall, iron-grey haired veteran to whom, the younger generation were according an enthusiastic three times “Hip Ha!" Thp boys were from To Aro School, and the occasion was a visit to the Museum to have a look at ‘lie Maori exhibits. On arrival at the Museum under the- leadership of their instructor, Mr Byrne, thev found a pleasant surprise had been prepared for them. A short talk on the Maori and his culture by the well-known Maori scholar, Mr Elsdon Best, to precede the inspection of the Museum, collections, had been arranged by the Acting-Director, Mr J. McDonald. This gave, the boys a brief outline. of .Maori life, arts, and handicrafts. He pointed out that from the Maori we knew how our own ancestor* lived, and outlined the differences between .this race and our own. The cheers marked the close of his interesting little talk.
