THE VALMARIE
CREW AT WELLINGTON. FURTHER EFFORTS TO REFLOAT THE VESSEL. Tho .schooner Valmarie, which ran ashore on Farewell Spit a few weeks ago while hound from • Grafton, NS AY. , to Wellington, with a cargo of Ihardlwood, has been abandoned by her crew. Captain Schultz, master of the vessel, and his crew of nine, all told, arrived at Wellington on Saturday morning from Nelson. Tlie crew will be sent back to Sydney. An official inquiry into the misliap to the Valniario will 1 bo held' at Wellington. Efforts, however, are still to be made to refloat tlhe schooner. Mr Archibald! Walker, of Wellington, and a number of men airo at tlie Valmarie, which is having her cargo unloaded with a view to an endeavour being made to get the ship off on the next Bpring tides, due this week. Additional salvage gear has been taken to tlie scene, and it is hoped that when the Valmarie has been lightened of her cargo she will have a chance of hauling herself off by means of her donkeyengine and the kedge anchors. Soane of those who have seen the plight of the schooner and the conditions that have to bo oontended with airo doubtful l whether she can b© extricated from her position.
