In the House of Commons, Mr Chamberlain stated that the Government wae not in communication with the Government of the United States for cancellation of the European war debts: neither was the Government prepared to approach America with a suggestion that the United Kingdom would cancel half the debts owing to her, on condition that the United States would aooept responsibility for the other half, which amounted to about £600,000,000.
