CHEQUE BETTING
ATTEMPT TO OVERCOME DIFFICULTY. BILL IN HOUSE' OF LORDS. Reuter’s' Telegram. LONDON, October 31. In connection with -the bill Lord Muir-MacKenzie is introducing in the House of Lords to overcome the cheque betting difficulty, he states that it simply proposes to repeal the section existing in the hill which caused the trouble, and enable any debt payable legally in money to be paid by cheque. The mil will contain a clause making it retrospective. In reply to a question in the House of Commons, the Home Secretary declared that he was not prepared to introduce a bill to legalise the pari-mu-tuel nr totalisator. SUPPORT FOR THE MEASURE. The Turf Guarding Society has decided to act in conjunction with Tattersalls’ Committee and the Jockey Club, with a view to supporting Lord Muir-Mockenzie’s hill.
